Hello, I’m Aishatu Alabi, the writer behind AtuWrites. If you’ve ever felt lost in your thoughts or struggled to put your emotions into words, I know that feeling well. Poetry wasn’t always something I connected with; in fact, it felt distant—a world of classics that seemed unrelated to my life.
That changed when I took a poetry module at university. Reluctantly, I gave it a chance—and then everything shifted. I discovered the magic of poetry. Suddenly, words became more than just sentences on a page. Poetry opened up a new way for me to express myself, to understand my feelings, and to make sense of my thoughts. It gave me a voice I didn’t realize I was missing.
Why I Write
At the heart of my writing is love. Love is timeless and universal. It’s the driving force behind our greatest joys, deepest heartaches, and most profound transformations. The majority of songs we cherish are dedicated to it. History has witnessed battles fought for love, and countless minds have been broken and mended in its pursuit. Love shapes us, pushing us to become the best—or sometimes the worst—versions of ourselves.
Writing about love allows me to explore its complexities. The joy of a new connection, the ache of unspoken words, the longing for something just out of reach—these are the experiences that I aim to capture in my work.
